Haubstadt was platted in 1855 as Haub's Station but wasn't formally incorporated until 1913 -- a nearly 60-year run as a rail-stop village before it became an official town. Water infrastructure laid down informally during that village period doesn't always match what came after incorporation brought more standardized services.
Drain and supply-line work in a century-old German settlement
Haubstadt's older core, one of seventeen distinct German communities that developed in southwestern Indiana, is old enough that drain-and-sewer service and repiping work regularly turn up supply lines dating to well before the town's 1913 incorporation.
